Why Doula Teams?
While most doulas work independently some of the doulas with AWD work in teams or partnerships. With this model our clients are guaranteed a well-rested, fully present doula by her side. Clients enjoy a dual consultation and the opportunity to have individual prenatal meetings with their team to foster a bond with both doulas. Only one doula will attend the birth. There are special circumstances where both doulas may attend the birth as well.
There is no primary and backup doula assigned; the mother is supported by the doula on call when she goes into labor. This kind of model ensures that in the case of a back-up situation, the mother is still supported by a doula who is well-versed in the needs and desires of this birth just as well as a primary doula. A call schedule will be given to the client upon signature of a contract. The doula who attends the birth will also attend the postpartum visit (although both are encouraged to attend whenever possible).
We value personal connections. Inviting someone into your life during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum is not taken for granted. That is evident from the first contact to our last meeting.
