Dorothy Grinolds, Postpartum Doula
"The cleaning and scrubbing can wait 'til tomorrow, for babies grow up I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep, I'm nursing my baby and babies don't keep."

I have this popular saying framed on the bedside table in my youngest son's room. I think the saying is popular because we often feel overwhelmed by all there is to do in today's fast paced society - especially after baby arrives. At night when I rock my son and my mind is scattered, it reminds me of the most important thing - caring for myself and my family.
As a postpartum doula, I will help you and your family learn how to care for your newborn baby, create a postpartum plan, help you develop a support system and learn self-care techniques. In addition to these services, I offer newborn and family photography (through my business Love & Light), new mama groups and as an animal lover, can help your cat or dog adjust to the new baby too!
I have a background in the arts and an MFA in photography. In my early adult years, I spent five years as a teacher's aid in an infant room at a childcare center. That experience taught me so much about newborn care and the importance of building relationships with parents. After working in animal welfare for seven years and the birth of my own children, my focus shifted toward nurturing and educating families during the postpartum time.
I live in Hopkins with my husband, two boys (ages 3 and 1), three dogs, and cat. As the mother of two young children, I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed and afraid; I also know what its like to receive reassurance and encouragement from a supportive community. This is not something anyone should do alone and that's why I'm here to help! I would be honored to help your family during this sacred time.
