The Birth Process
The complex process of labor and birth is easy to understand using the
contents of this class. Parents will have a solid foundation for their prenatal education and gain confidence and reassurance as they learn what to expect during labor and birth. They will learn to recognize the signs of labor, understand the physical and hormonal changes that occur during labor and birth, and appreciate how the mother and baby work together during the process. Labor variations, cesarean births and VBACs are included to help parents prepare for unexpected situations and learn of their options.
Birth Preferences and Communication
During this class we will spend time drafting birth preferences, discussing interventions with your provider and practice communication skills that will be beneficial during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.
Comfort Measures
Learning how to cope and find comfort during labor is an important task. During this class, you will learn about a variety of techniques available to you during labor.

Topics covered include:
  • Creating a comfortable environment;
  • The importance of touch and massage;
  • Breathing techniques;
  • The use of visualization and imagery to increase comfort;
  • Physical positions to help ease labor pain;
  • The variety of professional services available during labor; and
  • Medical options.
The Fourth Trimester
The six weeks immediately following birth - can be emotionally and physically challenging for a new mother. The demands of the baby and the necessity for her own rest and healing can be overwhelming. Additionally, there are many decisions to be made and information to learn about breastfeeding, newborn care and behavior. We will explore all of these topics and more; helping parents make a smooth adjustment to caring for a newborn and make this time as low-stress as possible.
Breastfeeding Essentials
Breastfeeding, though natural, is not always easy. Knowledge about and patience with you and your newborn are essential to success.  In this three-hour class we will teach you how to set yourself up for success before, during and after baby is born.

Our breastfeeding class provides an overview of the basics for helping get breastfeeding started off right.

Topics include:

Why Breastfeed Your Baby, Steps for Success, Breast Anatomy, Breastfeeding Hormones, Newborn Instincts, Positions for Breastfeeding, Hunger Cues and Transferring Milk, Ever-Changing Breast Milk, Newborn Digestion, Latching, Challenges, Supplies for Breastfeeding, Your Health, Breastfeeding and Working, Introducing Solids, and Weaning, Extended and Tandem Breastfeeding.
