Birthday Give-Away Announcement

11/24/2015

This past Sunday was my (Natalia) birthday and to celebrate I thought it would be fun to have a give-away. Because who doesn't like a give-away right?! I asked AWD friends and family on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to submit their most funny or memorable comment made while in labor and they did not disappoint!

I wanted to share one that I that clearly remember from the birth of my second daughter. I tend to be pretty quiet in general and in labor I am very much the same. While in active labor and after not saying anything for some time I remember being really internal and not really aware of my surroundings. I had a vision of myself walking up a mountain. Once I'd reached a certain point I looked at how far I'd climbed and at how much farther I had to go. I realized that I couldn't go back and that I had to keep moving forward to finish (I'd forgotten I was having a baby). You'd think that this was a really spiritual and a sacred moment but the first word I said after several hours of silence was
"Oh! CRAAAP!" and then let out a loud sigh. Can you imagine the look on my husband, nurse and doula! (Natalia)

Below are some of the entries. I hope you are as tickled by their entries as I wa
s.
"With my first realizing I was actually having a baby and announcing to the room... I was having a baby .... because no one seeing his head crown would have been able to figure that out."
Iola K.
"Regarding the birth tub: "I feel like a polar bear, swimming back and forth, in a pool too small for its lifestyle!"
Ashley D.
“My dad said he hoped my son would be born on his birthday while I was in early labor. His birthday wasn't for 2 more weeks! I was so mad at him.”
Melissa E.

“While being prepped in the OR at 42 weeks, the very serious anesthesiologist cracked a joke that this was an indication of how long my child would live at home. And then went back to being serious again.”
Jeni M.

While pushing "Next time we're going to adopt!"

Happy birthday Natalia!! Okay, memorable labor moment...it was actually the nurse's comment. When I got to the birth center in labor I looked at my friend/nurse Jill and said "Jill, you better tell me I'm at a 10." She checks and says "uhhh, yeah...you're good..." You need the tone of voice to really convey the humor in it...we still use that line around the house! ;)

“I was laying in the hospital bed when labor was really getting going with my fourth baby and I just started to cry. My husband asked what was wrong and I said, "I can't do this again." He said, "Yes, you can and you're going to do great!" I said, "I don't WANT to do this again. (Sob). I want to go home!" Out she came 10 pounds, 3 ounces. We share a birthday! “
My favorite comment from someone else was when a resident was helping my doctor with delivering my third baby in the birthing tub. The resident said, "Oh, wow! Look -- it's the baby coming out fist first! I've never seen that!" I said, "Really?!" The doctor whispered to her, "Uh ... That's a hemorrhoid."

Anna  K.
"Uuugggaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh... This is such a beautiful experience. Haaaauuuuuuuuggggggggghhhhhhhhffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu... I can't wait to meet her." (whimper)
Heather S.
Last but not least, the winner of the give-away which is a $50 gift certificate to The Chianti Grill:
Jessie B.P.
Thanks for all of the birthday love and for sharing your awesome memories!

***All entries were entered into a Rafflecopter drawing***
