November is a wonderful time to think about all of the things that you have to be grateful for. As I reflect over the last year I am truly humbled to see one of a few dreams come true. When I decided to walk away from a real estate career into birth work I always knew from day one that in order for me to do everything that I imagined for women and families that it I couldn't do it alone. I was excited about the possibilities of working with women who shared the same visions and goals.
The last few weeks have been a whirl-wind as I prepare to receive an award from WomenVenture for their Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained: Emerging Business Award. During an interview with WCCO I had the opportunity to meet some amazing women who are just as passionate about their chosen businesses as I am (Angie Bastian of Boomchickapop, Hannah Barnstable of Seven Sundays and Jen Swendseid of Heart and Core). I learned so much in the short amount of time that we were together and the biggest reminder that I heard from them all was that you can't do it alone.
Very similar to childbirth women are very capable of delivering children without any assistance. But what a difference it can make to be surrounded by people who desire the same outcome and experience, who love and respect you.
If anything has taught me over the last few weeks is that I feel incredibly blessed to work alongside women who I believe are compassionate, gifted and talented in their own right. I know that I have a great team that I get to share this amazing journey with and I continue to feel humble when I get to describe what it is like to work with women and families during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.
